South Carolina Hunter Safety Course Requirements

Hunter education rules before you start the South Carolina practice test.

South Carolina hunters generally need hunter safety certification before hunting. Here is what to know before you take the South Carolina practice test.

Minimum age / certification
Course recommended starting at age 12; certification required for anyone born after June 30, 1979.
Blaze orange
On Wildlife Management Areas, during buckshot/firearms seasons (deer, bear, hog), full international orange is required (exceptions for dove, turkey, and migratory bird hunting).

Official regulations are set by South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR). Always confirm current rules there before hunting.
