Ohio Hunter Safety Course Requirements

Hunter education rules before you start the Ohio practice test.
Minimum age / certification
The online course is open starting at age 12 (with a required in-person session for anyone under 12 after the online portion); no minimum age for the fully in-person course. An apprentice permit lets a hunter skip certification if accompanied by a licensed adult 21 or older.
Loaded firearms in vehicles
Ohio law prohibits knowingly transporting a loaded firearm in a vehicle if it's accessible to the driver or a passenger without exiting the vehicle; an unloaded firearm must be in a closed case or a compartment only reachable from outside the vehicle.
Tagging
Game Check reporting (online, phone, or through a licensed agent) is required to register a deer or turkey harvest.
License year
March 1 through the last day of February of the following year; multi-year licenses instead run from their purchase date.
