North Dakota Hunter Safety Course Requirements

Hunter education rules before you start the North Dakota practice test.

North Dakota hunters generally need hunter safety certification before hunting. Here is what to know before you take the North Dakota practice test.

Minimum age / certification
Required for anyone born after 1961; the standard classroom course requires turning 11 by the end of the calendar year, the hybrid online course requires age 12; a narrow exception lets a hunter turning 11 later in the year get a doe permit without the course first.
Blaze orange
At least 400 square inches of fluorescent orange above the waist, including a hat, for firearm deer hunting; camouflage-pattern orange doesn't count.
Tagging
A harvested deer must be tagged immediately, with the date notched on the tag and the tag attached to the antlers (antlered deer) or an ear (antlerless deer).

Official regulations are set by North Dakota Game and Fish Department. Always confirm current rules there before hunting.
