Louisiana Hunter Safety Course Requirements

Hunter education rules before you start the Louisiana practice test.

Louisiana hunters generally need hunter safety certification before hunting. Here is what to know before you take the Louisiana practice test.

Minimum age / certification
Certification available starting at age 10 (age 9 is possible but must be retaken); required for anyone born after September 1, 1969.
Blaze orange
400 square inches of fluorescent orange or pink on the head, chest, and back during firearm deer season (exceptions for cap-only on private land, or from an elevated stand on private land).
Tagging
A tag must stay attached to the carcass during transport and storage; harvests must be validated within 72 hours.

Official regulations are set by Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF). Always confirm current rules there before hunting.
