Kentucky Hunter Safety Course Requirements

Hunter education rules before you start the Kentucky practice test.

Kentucky hunters generally need hunter safety certification before hunting. Here is what to know before you take the Kentucky practice test.

Minimum age / certification
Hunter education test available starting at age 9; certification required by age 12.
Blaze orange
Solid orange visible on the head, chest, and back required during modern firearm, muzzleloader, and youth seasons for deer, elk, and bear (mesh is allowed if holes are 1/4 inch or smaller).
Tagging
Telecheck reporting is mandatory by midnight on the day of harvest; a carcass tag is required if the animal leaves the hunter's possession.

Official regulations are set by Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Always confirm current rules there before hunting.
