Course registration starting at age 11, license eligibility at 12; certification required for anyone born after January 1, 1972.
Blaze orange
At least 50% solid fluorescent orange visible above the waist during firearm deer and upland game bird seasons.
Loaded firearms in vehicles
A loaded, uncased firearm may only be carried in a vehicle by someone holding a valid permit to carry (Iowa Code §724.7); otherwise firearms must be unloaded.
Tagging
Harvest reporting is mandatory through the Go Outdoors Iowa app, text, or website.
License year
Licenses must be renewed annually (except lifetime licenses).
