Georgia Hunter Safety Course Requirements

Hunter education rules before you start the Georgia practice test.

Georgia hunters generally need hunter safety certification before hunting. Here is what to know before you take the Georgia practice test.

Minimum age / certification
No minimum age to take the course; hunters may hunt unsupervised starting around age 12-15 depending on the activity, while hunters 11 and under must be supervised.
Blaze orange
500 square inches of fluorescent orange required during firearms deer/bear/hog seasons.
Loaded firearms in vehicles
Loaded firearms may not be transported in a vehicle except while actively hunting.
Tagging
No physical tag — harvests are reported within 24 hours through Georgia Game Check.

Official regulations are set by Wildlife Resources Division, Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Always confirm current rules there before hunting.
