California Hunter Safety Course Requirements

Hunter education rules before you start the California practice test.
Loaded firearms in vehicles
State law prohibits carrying a loaded firearm on your person or in a vehicle, with specific exceptions (Penal Code §25850).
Tagging
A deer tag report is required within 30 days of the harvest or by January 31, whichever comes first — hunters who didn't harvest anything must still report "no harvest" by January 31 or face a penalty (California Code of Regulations §708.5).
License year
July 1 through June 30; not automatically renewed.

Official regulations are set by California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). Always confirm current rules there before hunting.
